Mid Downs Annual Christmas Party and Awards Ceremony – Saturday 24 January 2009.
This year we held our Awards Ceremony at Rowfant House. A fine old building with a lot of wood panelling in the halls and located down a very dark lane somewhere between the Dukes Head roundabout and Ardingly Showground.
It was very well supported with over 60 members and partners attending the evening. The food was very good , more than ample portions even for those with a large appetite, and everyone seemed to be having a really enjoyable evening. There were frequent bursts of the bagpipe as a neighbouring hall had a Burns Night Party in full swing, but it did not drown out the noise from those attending our function.
At the end of the meal, Don stood up to give a short (thankfully unslurred this year) speech and then handed over to Tricia, the Club's Chair woman, to make the presentation of the trophies. Tricia also made a short speech, occasionally interrupted by Don, but Tricia could talk just as loudly . Christine Lovett ably helped Tricia giving her the right rosette with the right trophy to the right person, well at least that is how it was perceived from the rest of us.
The evening finally concluded with the last Mid Downs members leaving around 1 am.
Happy Birthday to Barrie Harvey, Marc Saunders and Amanda Rodgers ( Amanda was celebrating a big ‘ 0 ' birthday) – all happily supported floating balloons, so there was no mistaking where the birthday boys/girl were sitting.
I am sure we would all like to thank Dorothy who was the main organiser for this event this year. Can we remind you that it is important to enter the points you gain throughout the season, they soon add up, and next year, maybe it will be you receiving a trophy.
Look forward to seeing you all at our March Show, on the 14th. Lots of help will most probably be needed, so please do not hesitate to come along, even if you are not competing, I am sure there will be a job for you to do.
